To support our sustainability goals, we are seeking a passionate and talented Packaging and Product Technologist, to join our dedicated team. As the sustainable Packaging and Product Technologist, you will play a crucial role in driving our sustainability initiatives forward. Your primary focus will be to develop and implement sustainable packaging strategies and optimize the product life cycle to reduce waste and improve overall environmental performance. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, sourcing, operations, and marketing, to ensure that sustainable practices are integrated throughout our entire value chain.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement innovative sustainable packaging solutions that align with Hunkemöller's sustainability goals and enhance our brand image.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to Identify opportunities for sustainable packaging improvements and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Support changes in material specifications to achieve sustainable improvements that meet consistency for performance quality and functionality, establishing material and dimensions meet our business standards and operational feasibility.
  • Coordinate and Support the execution of packaging on a day to day basis within the marketing and communication teams.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to Produce packaging prototypes to ensure products meets the requirements of the brief.
  • Support packaging trials by leading delivery to suppliers and communication to internal teams.
  • Approve artworks within a timely manner, communicating issues through direct manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify and Implement opportunities for continuous process improvements to drive efficiencies
  • Participate in sustainability reporting and provide accurate data on packaging waste, and other relevant metrics.
  • Collaborate with CSR to Conduct lifecycle assessments to identify opportunities for product and packaging optimization, from sourcing to end-of-life disposal or recycling.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging compliance requirements, RSL, REACH, EPR  industry best practices, and regulatory changes related to sustainable packaging and product life cycle management.
  • Research and evaluate eco-friendly materials, technologies, and packaging designs to reduce waste, promote recyclability, and increase efficiency.
  • Work closely with product development teams to integrate sustainable design principles and materials into new product development processes.
  • Lead the chemical and environmental requirements RSL& REACH from material to finished product
  • Lead the sustainable material guide indicating preferred raw material fabric and trims
  • Provide guidance and support to internal product teams on Sustainable concerns and upcoming legislations
  • Implement our sustainable roadmap ensuring our sustainable initiatives remain effective and on course.
  • Leverage your curiosity to explore new sustainability trends and technologies, continuously seeking innovative solutions to enhance our sustainable commitments
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote Hunkemöller's sustainability efforts and engage customers in our eco-friendly initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering, sustainability, environmental science, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in sustainable packaging design and development, preferably within the retail or consumer goods industry.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable materials, packaging technologies, and waste reduction strategies.
  • Familiarity with product life cycle assessments, eco-design principles, and circular economy concepts.
  • Understanding of relevant regulations and standards, such as FSC, ISO, and EU directives on packaging waste.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and drive initiatives to completion.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and a results-driven mindset.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Passion for sustainability and a genuine interest in driving positive change in the fashion industry.
